The Grey System Analysis and Its Application in Gas Breakdown and Var Compensator

The main purpose of this paper is the use of the grey relational grade, GM(1,N) and GM(0,N) models as three new processes to systematically solve the problem of probability of gas breakdown and the suitable location of VAR compensator in feeding . It not only can provide a suggestion for decision-making, but also reduce the damage in a power system. In the past, the major research method for probability of gas breakdown analysis and selection of VAR location and implementing a distribution feeder were the traditional and non-linear programming method. It has been published in many research papers. However, over the past few years, many new methods have been discussed, such as the genetic algorithm, the fuzzy method, the neutral network method. . . etc. Although the results seem quite good, a new method to solve the problem of probability of gas breakdown and the selection of a VAR location still needs to be found. This paper, is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on the mathematical method which is called the grey relational grade, GM(1,N) and GM(0,N) models. . The second part presents two examples: one is the gas breakdown analysis in the central region of Taiwan, and the other is the bus line in the Taiwan Power System (Taipower BX-33 BUS). The third part of this paper uses an example to implement the algorithm, which is based on the above mentioned theorems. Finally, the approach is concluded and the limitations are set while creating a grey system analysis toolbox for the needs of this paper. Copyright c ©2002 Yang’s Scientific Research Institute, LLC.
